Sid and Gma's Pie
I hope every one had a nice July 4th!:D Glancing through my blog this evening, I realized I talk a lot about my animals, hehe I do so love them all! Anyway I realized I hardly ever talk about what I use to clean my house, clothes or for that matter recipe's (I do cook) I am going to change that :). I have been using my own cleaners and eating organic for a long time, this is not something I just decided to do because it was the "in thing" I actually had to. I do though like being gentler on the planet and saving money at the same time so its a win/win situation! :) The reason I stopped purchasing very much from the store is because I have allergies to chemicals. The Doctor could not narrow it down to what one/ones it was so I ended up cutting out as much as I could and over the years and it has made a big difference in my life. One of the biggest impact on my life was when I changed the way I eat, I stopped buying veggies in a can and started purchasing only fresh (organic) veggies or grow my own. My household cleaners have also been (for the last four years) all non chemical cleaners that I also make at home. The cleaners are very easy to make and contains only a few ingredients, I have learned also that if/when I backslide and eat out that my problems come back rather quickly (tongue swells) feel tired. I do tend though to cook rather simple foods like fried potatoes, ham and beans, roast beef/pork, baked chicken, fried catfish with fresh fruit and veggies always on the side. This is one of the reasons I like Estelle's blog : The Main House she makes me think outside the box with her fabulous recipes and I usually have the ingredients already on hand :) she also has this calming touch to her blog that I like. On another subject our hog should be ready to be picked up in a few weeks, this means I need to have our meat freezer more organized....another on my to do list! The weather has been so hot, its105 today and I still do not have the rabbit hutches finished. I have one finished and the other almost half done, I am picking up supposed to pick the rabbits up tomorrow.....my problem is by 9:00am its already miserable outside. This project seems like it is taking forever (its actually only been 2 weeks), when hubby comes home this weekend I am hoping he can help with the finishing touches. On another topic my grand daughter said I have got to post her blackberry pie, she is here watching to make sure I do! :) She picked the blackberries herself (she is 6) and her and her great grandma (she is 84) made the pie, they would not let me help at all (in fact they made me leave the kitchen). She is learning to read so she made the letters to put on "her" and "grandma's" blackberry pie, all in all they both did a really good job and it tasted great they also made whipped cream to go on top. My grand daughter was a little upset because it went into the oven prettier than it came out, I told her I thought it was beautiful because she did it all from scratch.
