The above picture is the compost pile that was started last March, hubby turned it again with the tractor and now its ready to be put on the garden. I wish we had a bucket lift on the tractor :( this week I will have to hand shovel it on the back of the Polaris and take it to each of the gardens and hand spread it (rake and shovel). Up side though is I will be getting a lot of exercise this week, bad side I hate to have sore muscles!
This is our compost pile hubby just started last week for next year. It looks like a pile of hay from a distance but everyone contributes to the compost pile from all the animals on the farm to the kitchen scraps (the chickens get first dibs on scraps first though) :)
First load on and ready to be spread on the garden, (it only took me 50 minutes to shovel it in and 30 minutes to unload and spread) :) now how many loads will it take to cover the gardens......Then we still have to turn the ground over and tiller, I am running a couple of weeks behind but it feels sooo good to finally be getting things started.
Your compost certainly LOOKS good!
ReplyDeleteThanks this is how hubby has done it for years and the gardens so far have been great :)
DeleteThat is some pretty compost. My experiments with chicken manure was a dud. I had two huge piles of horse manure that I never turned so I had to weed it before I used it. Grabbed a hold of a stinging nettle and hurt until I went to bed! Turning with a tractor sounds like something I may want to do!
DeleteThe tractor made it easier, but I still have all the shoveling and spreading to do by hand by myself since hubby is working 4 hours from home and on overtime for the next 3 weeks. Why does it seem to work that was sometimes! :)
DeleteBeautiful compost! Springtime and sore muscles go hand-in-hand for me too ;)

Hi Jaime, most of us that have animals, gardens etc probably have this in common! :) Thanks for the compliment on the compost, I just hope it is ok this year! I keep my fingers crossed, it has worked for the last 7 years but you never know until the garden starts growing!
