While waiting for an oven :)

I have had one of those weeks..... the glass is always half full though! I am just learning a new way to cook is all....when the oven broke (last week) and I priced a new one.....well I have decided to work around it for a bit (hope not for long with thanksgiving coming up). It amazes me when something breaks the things you usually don't use or forget you have, become important....I wanted Biscuits and Gravy this morning for breakfast...
The gravy was easy
The problem was the biscuits how would I make them, after searching around the kitchen (in the cabinets), I guess I thought a new stove would magically appear.....(no such luck)! I came across something my dear sister gave me for Christmas last year.
It makes tiny muffins, cakes...
It also makes tiny biscuits
I think they turned out pretty good, they were about a third the size of my biscuits so they only had to be broke in half and they were bite size. Now since I am going to be without an oven for a while (I may need to dig deeper into the cabinets), its on to the next project! :) While looking in my cabinets though I also ran across my bread machine....... I'm thinking now if I don't have my stove fixed/replaced by Thanksgiving I can dig out my roaster next :) I'm beginning to think I can do without my oven for a while!

  1. When we moved last year to a different home we quickly found two of the appliances were not functioning. They had been unplugged in the vacant home and we didn't assume anything could be wrong. Ahem, big mistake, the refrigerator never quit running and the dishwasher had even worse problems. Sigh.

We had to replace both items quickly. We were fortunate that the store that sells appliances was having a big sale and managed really great bargains.

Have you tried Craigslist? Good luck, I use my crock pot a lot but we live in Arizona and often it is too hot to fire up the oven.

    1. Hi JMD
I have not tried Craigslist I'll look today, checked for sales did not find any (maybe close to Christmas there will be). I have gotten out my crock pot also :) I do use that a lot there is nothing better than putting something in a crock pot and come home late and the whole house smells sooo good!

  2. There are sales, do you have a home depot or lowes nearby, we live in such a tiny town we only have home depot, but the sale was about 40% off because they were the close out year specials. woo hoo

I have chicken and dumplings going in my crock pot now, smells so good.

  5. Have you still got the use of a hob? Lots of people seem to have separate hobs and ovens these days. My cooker is the old fashioned all-in-one and must be over 30 years old now. To save heating up the oven, I often cook scones (biscuits) in a frying pan with a lid on (skillet). Works just fine.

  6. Hi, I just found your blog tonight. My oven was broken for two months before I could afford to repair it. I could use the elements on top, and used my slow cooker to cook everything else, which worked out fine.

Good luck - I hope you can get your oven fixed soon. Mine was only an element that was busted, but it still cost $200 (NZ) to repair, when you can buy a new oven for just over twice the price.

    1. Hi Poppy Q nice to meet you! :) I checked and it will be kinda high to fix it, I am though getting a little use to this new way of cooking! The glass is still half full, at least I have other ways to cook and I think I can even pull off thanksgiving with it being broken. :)
