Baby its cold outside....

I am so ready for spring to get here:) its bitterly cold, I made all the animals more beds yesterday and brought the two big dogs in the house for the night, our small ones stay in the house. Everything was checked and rechecked before bed and I made a list so I wouldn't forget anything and checked it off, when its -10 degrees (we have not gotten this cold in years) and a foot of snow stuff seems to go wrong!
My list looks kinda like this:
pump house heat bulb on (more important has not burned out) checked twice a day
goats in there bed in the barn for the night, check
rabbits left there bedding "in" their bed, check
brake ice in pond for cows (in this weather its four times a day)
heat bulb stays on in chicken house, check
Check fire every four hours from 6pm to 6am, when this cold its hard keep the chill out
Etc. you get the picture :)
This is what all the windows look like
on the front porch
I have been watching the show "Alaska the last frontier" this past year and started thinking.....I talked to hubby about how nice it would be to live there, really considering it.....(while setting in my living room, during summer)....well I don't know what I was thinking or "if" I was thinking! The place is sooo beautiful , but if I can't handle 48 hours of below zero Alaska is not for me  :) I'll just watch the show and think how pretty the area is and remember it takes a special person to live there and make a living.....I want spring.....summer would even be better....I feel like acting a child and stomping my foot and saying NOW! Okay, big girl panties back on, smile on face with rant over its 6:00am, I need to bundle up, check the fires and make sure all the animals made it through the night.
Here's to everyone staying warm

Tonights storm

The storm looked bad as it came in, had
Some rotation
Not sure who was more scared mom
who would not take her eyes off the news,
Pip setting at her feet or pronto under her
Jacket I could only see his nose...
I think it was pip when the lightening hit close and
the thunder got really loud the poor little guy ran
 under the couch

It's raining, its pouring....... :D

It's raining its pouring.....I mean really a good hard rain and its been raining for the last three hours! I don't think I have used the word rain this many times in one sentence before......YAY RAIN.....This picture was taken of our yard looks like a normal summer rain, except for all the fallen leaves if I didnt know better I would think it was a good chilly fall rain....
The pond is still very low but at least the rain has added a few inches and cleared up the water a little.
Its so relaxing! after the rain the tempertaure dropped to 81 degrees and the air smells sooo clean and of course all the animals came out. Some (chickens) to search for food and cows to get out from the shade trees and eat some grass, all the poor animals have spent many day's hidding under shade tree's lately. The calves and baby kid goats have had a ball  running and playing in the fields, it always amazes me how a rain wakes everyone up. The best news is however that we may be getting more rain tomorrow! Our gardens may make it after all! :D

Tiny bit of rain....... :)

This is what the sky looked like last night YAY! We had a dark sky, thunder and lightening :) Then it started to rain......with July 4th looming I was ecstatic to see the rain! We are under a no fireworks at the present, but sadly in the country a lot of people (kids) do not pay any attention. With our fields as brown and dry as they are I am very worried. Sadly we did not get very much rain (beggers cant be chooser's though) we did get a lot of thunder and lightening and the little rain we did get is just going to make the humidity awful. When hubby left this morning at 4:00am I could already feel the humidity in the air and this of course seems to make the heat feel hotter.....At least we did get a little rain, maybe fingers crossed its the start of some down poors! Hey I can dream cant I :) The gardens and fields need it so bad, this past Thursday when I was hanging out clothes when the little bit of wind we had hit my skin it was so hot and dry (106). I could have closed my eye's and I would have thought I was back in Arizona visiting my brother. I really dont remember a time with the air here having so little humidity and the lack of rain combind with heat.....the weather forecast say's chance of rain off and on this week so fingers crossed :)

Tornado sirens in the winter?

What is it with the weather lately! One day last week I had to break the ice in pond thats in the barn lot (only once so far)! It drops down to freezing one night only to be 60 degrees the next, then yesterday it got up to 63 during the day and overnight went up to almost 70. I was up from 2:00am until 4:00am watching the weather channel because  Doppler was showing there were potential tornado's in 6 different areas around and over us and the wind, rain and lightening were so bad! Its odd from where I live you can just barely hear the tornado sirens in the summer, but I learned (last night) in the winter they are more clear. Tonight its getting back down to 19 degrees (closer to normal) but still with the heavy winds. I am not complaining (much) but I have not even bladed the driveway once, you have to have snow to blade, 1/2 inch does not count! I just like normal, what I am used to, what I plan for, is that to much to ask? I like winter, spring, summer and fall to act like winter, spring, summer and fall! I just hope when spring gets here I can plant my garden on time and not be blading the drive or breaking the ice instead, sorry sometimes I rant to much....next post I will not rant....possibly :)
When I went into town this morning there where items laying all around, the above picture was a shed roof that ended up their neighbors yard and three big beautiful trees were broke over in town, just high winds though no tornado. We were lucky (just 3 miles away) and we had nothing destroyed and no trees down.
Since the weather can not make up its mind neither can our ponds, half frozen and half not.....

Weather or not

This was taken Monday 3/14 we got about 6 inches of very wet
snow. Since the day before it was in the 60's a lot of it melted
as it fell the temp was in the low 30's

This was taken Wednesday 3/16
In the upper 60's
wish the weather would make up its mind!
It's more bipolar than my daughter.
