Tornado sirens in the winter?
What is it with the weather lately! One day last week I had to break the ice in pond thats in the barn lot (only once so far)! It drops down to freezing one night only to be 60 degrees the next, then yesterday it got up to 63 during the day and overnight went up to almost 70. I was up from 2:00am until 4:00am watching the weather channel because Doppler was showing there were potential tornado's in 6 different areas around and over us and the wind, rain and lightening were so bad! Its odd from where I live you can just barely hear the tornado sirens in the summer, but I learned (last night) in the winter they are more clear. Tonight its getting back down to 19 degrees (closer to normal) but still with the heavy winds. I am not complaining (much) but I have not even bladed the driveway once, you have to have snow to blade, 1/2 inch does not count! I just like normal, what I am used to, what I plan for, is that to much to ask? I like winter, spring, summer and fall to act like winter, spring, summer and fall! I just hope when spring gets here I can plant my garden on time and not be blading the drive or breaking the ice instead, sorry sometimes I rant to much....next post I will not rant....possibly :)
When I went into town this morning there where items laying all around, the above picture was a shed roof that ended up their neighbors yard and three big beautiful trees were broke over in town, just high winds though no tornado. We were lucky (just 3 miles away) and we had nothing destroyed and no trees down.

Our weather in NW Kansas has been strange at times this winter. We had a full-blown thunderstorm a couple of weeks ago. Complete with lightning, thunder, wind, but very little mmoisture. It will be 70 one day and 20 the next.
ReplyDeleteJohn, You are not to far from us maybe a little close to the same weather? I just hope this year for a better garden than last year, for us it was really disappointing! I am keeping fingers crossed for two good gardens and to get 8 fruit trees planted in the spring.
ReplyDeleteWe had sirens yesterday too. Nothing like driving to work at 5 a.m. in January and having hail, high winds and tornado warnings!
ReplyDeleteMandy, seems like mother nature likes to play with us lately :) I just hope we have a calm spring and good gardens!

We had damage in the wee hours of the morning. Had to call the insurance company this time. The weather report did not say we had tornadoes in the area but I believe we did. We have had less damage from a hurricane than what we had this morning.
ReplyDeleteI am all for calm springs and good gardens!
Glad you are all ok!
