We had a cow a few years ago that kept getting out into the neighbors field, could not find a fence down and she was to big to jump. After three times getting out I finally decided to run her toward the fence and (hope)she would go back the way she came. Well she did but it was a suprise to me, she walked across our cattle guard so I ended up selling her also. :)country lifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06062018110749960921noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359279116223086664.post-46222968834472147902012-06-19T17:20:42.508-05:002012-06-19T17:20:42.508-05:00LOL, I finally convinced DH that if he didn't ...LOL, I finally convinced DH that if he didn't get rid of a steer that was fence jumping it would end up as dog meat as I was going to borrow the neighbours gun and shoot it! It was easily clearing a 4 strand barb wire fence (about 4 feet high) and jumping into the house yard at night, eating the low oranges off the trees then jumping out as it wasn't there in the morning. I wondered how it was coming in until my working dog alerted me early one day, as the steer had strayed into her line of site, so I let her drive it towards the gate I opened and it just popped over the nearby fence like an olympic showjumper. All I can say now is it sold for a good price at the monthly cattle market :D.
P.S. Brahman cattle may be intelligent but sometimes they are too clever for their own good.RobynLouisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08050372484207822842noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359279116223086664.post-282911843807526152012-06-19T14:46:51.919-05:002012-06-19T14:46:51.919-05:00It seems like they always act up when the weather ...It seems like they always act up when the weather is going to get bad and they can become very stubborn! The winter had been very mild until then, but, a storm was brewing, and, Dad wanted them warm and dry. Two were being buggers about it, must've chased them for hours, soaked to the skin, I fell in the mud and mom laughed so hard, she almost peed. The remaining one, kept going thru the fence to the neighbors. We finally gave up when dad said, "Let her stay out, she'll be ready to come in tomorrow" and she was. My grandfather was in the house with a pot of mom's homemade veggie soup, which I never liked, I ate two bowls.
Give little Reba a hug for me, if Big Red lets you get near her.SHARONhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18408136143188209922noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8359279116223086664.post-80311369953352548882012-06-19T10:13:17.035-05:002012-06-19T10:13:17.035-05:00I agree that cows are very smart. I never did see it go in or out and I have no idea how it did it. Very sneaky. Thank goodness for garden fences.Jane @ Hard Work Homesteadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02905658082120445313noreply@blogger.com
